How to Hide a File or Folder on Win XP?

Here is a simple way to hide files and folders on Windows XP without having to spending a chunk of change for software that only has one purpose.

Okay, when you create the file or folder, put in a non-typical location, for example instead of just putting it under My Documents or My Pictures, place it in a place that isn’t a usual spot like C:\program files, most unwanted hackers or other Windows XP users will not think to look in here because it typically is for installation files.

Now you have your folder in a random path, click My Computer from you desktop then select tools and then locate folder options.  Then click on the view tab and then look under the Hidden files and folders area, select the “do not show hidden files and folders“.  Now go to the folder or file you are wanting to hide and right click on it, and pick Properties.  In the General tab you will want to select the box that says Hidden in the Attributes section.  Hit Okay, now your folder will not be visible in the current window, if you want to reverse this you will have to do the same procedure again and change the option back to Show Hidden Files and Folders

To save a file into a hidden folder all you have to do is type the entire path name in the file name box such as C:\program files\HiddenFolder\filename.doc and hit save. And that is all you have to do so don’t waste your money on software when it is as simple as this.  But if you feel like this is too much trouble for you there are plenty of different programs that are as easy as drag and drop, some are even free if you don’t mind occasional pop up warnings messages.
