How to Hide a File or Folder on Win XP?

Here is a simple way to hide files and folders on Windows XP without having to spending a chunk of change for software that only has one purpose.

Okay, when you create the file or folder, put in a non-typical location, for example instead of just putting it under My Documents or My Pictures, place it in a place that isn’t a usual spot like C:\program files, most unwanted hackers or other Windows XP users will not think to look in here because it typically is for installation files.

Now you have your folder in a random path, click My Computer from you desktop then select tools and then locate folder options.  Then click on the view tab and then look under the Hidden files and folders area, select the “do not show hidden files and folders“.  Now go to the folder or file you are wanting to hide and right click on it, and pick Properties.  In the General tab you will want to select the box that says Hidden in the Attributes section.  Hit Okay, now your folder will not be visible in the current window, if you want to reverse this you will have to do the same procedure again and change the option back to Show Hidden Files and Folders

How Do You Hide a File on the Computer?

Having trouble hiding files on your computer, well there are multiple different programs that will help you do just this, some are completely free others may cost you a few bucks that are defiantly worth the extra protection.

Universal Shield 4.2 is one of the best in my opinion.  It is free to try but will cost you around $35 for the license to keep using it, but I think it is worth because it is simple to use and offers some of the best security for the price.  To use Universal Shield after you download it all you have to do is run the program through the start menu, click on the wizard button if it does not start automatically which it should.  Pick hide files, folders and follow the steps which are easy to follow it basically does all the work for you.
